It's Raining in Phoenix!

This is the second shower we've had in the last 48 hours:

WOW! A whole eighth of an inch!!

Another view of the rain guage!

LOOK at all the water in the gutters running down the street!

The  rain guage shows about an eighth of an inch so far this Friday morning. We had about a quarter-inch Wednesday night with lots of thunder and lightning. Today, Friday, no thunder/lightning yet at ten in the AM. The monsoonal flow looks good for the next week. We sure need it, being about two-and-a-half inches behind the average. We get about 7 to 8 inches for the year and so far we've had less than an inch as measured at the airport.  Saturday we received a few sprinkles on this side of town, but the other side had up to an inch and a half. YIPPEE!!

  1. When we get that much down here we just refer to it as spit. It's not a rain unless it's at least an inch. :)

Of course, we get about 80 inches a year

  2. Whew! That's about as bad as Seattle!

  3. We could use even an eighth of an inch-we are very dry here in Wyoming. We seem to get the lightning and no rain-not good here in fire country.

  4. We've had two or three big fires already this year. I'll do a rain dance for Wyoming this PM.

  5. Nice photographs, Oscar. The average rainfall in Bombay (at least) during the four months of monsoon (June to September) is 2,200mm, though it went up to over 3,000mm in 2006 when a particularly nasty "cloud burst" over the city stranded lakhs of people in their offices up to three days. A 15-minute rainfall throws life, both people, markets, and transport, out of gear. This year the rains are in deficit and we are praying for a real downpour to fill up the five lakes supplying water to the city that will also remove the 10% water cut imposed by the civic body.

    1. That's a lot of rain for four months. It seems to be a dry year about everywhere except for those areas that have been getting drenched with flooding rain. A 10% cut in water is enough to cause dry lawns. I hope the lakes get filled up pretty soon.
